BRITAIN'S MOST HAUNTED CASTLES

Britain is home to hundreds of castles and it all started when William the Conqueror had large stone castles built to protect the coastline and countryside from invaders and also to hold back the undefeated Celts of Wales and Scotland. Through castles Williams feudal system was maintained.

To the conquered Saxons the built of so many castles in such a short time must have appeared as bitter symbols of oppression but the castle also offered security to the local population.

With so much castle history Britains reputation for its ghostlore is very intriguing. A number of haunted castles have royal ghosts which should not come as a surprise as their stories are well documented. Other sites are merely haunted as the ghost story has long been forgotten but the presence of something supernatural is definately still there.

Whichever way you look at it ghost stories are here to stay. Down the centuries thousand of people have believed in them and mysterious beings do walk castle walls and re-enact tragedies.

Disbelief is suspended as we begin our visits to the most haunted castles in England, Scotland and Wales. Are you brave enough to visit?
